From Psychologist to Photographer

I’m Erin. I’m based in Charlottesville, VA, and I serve families across Richmond and Central Virginia.

Some of my favorite memories aren’t the ones you’d find on a holiday card. They’re the in-between ones—the way my kids’ hands used to slip into mine without me asking, the contagious laughter that bubbled up long after bedtime, the quiet pauses that seemed ordinary at the time but feel priceless now. Those little moments are the heartbeat of family life, and they’re what I love most about photographing yours.

Before becoming a photographer, I spent years in the mental health field. I still think of myself as having one foot there—because that work shaped me. It taught me how to slow down, to really listen, and to notice the small details that often go unseen. When I picked up a camera, it felt natural to carry that same presence with me. My approach isn’t about stiff poses or forced smiles—it’s about creating a space where you and your people can simply be yourselves, and then capturing the beauty that unfolds in the in-between.

I believe the best photographs aren’t about perfection—they’re about connection, honesty, and feeling truly seen.

Hi there!

My Approach

I photograph using natural light—whether that’s the cozy glow of your home or the golden light of a late summer evening. I’ll guide you when it’s helpful, but I’m not interested in stiff, posed smiles. What I look for are the honest moments: the way your baby settles into your arms, the laughter that bubbles up when you least expect it, the connections that tell your family’s story.

Every family has its own rhythm. Some sessions are loud and full of energy, others are quiet and tender. My role is to notice and document what makes your family feel like you.

What You Can Expect

Sessions are relaxed and pressure-free. You don’t have to worry about whether your kids are “cooperating” or if everything looks perfect—I promise, that’s not what makes a great photo. Instead, I want you to simply be with your people while I take care of the rest.

When you look back at your images, I don’t want you to just see what you looked like that day. I want you to feel it—the season you were in, the love that carried you through, the little details that are so easy to forget.

Things I Love!

Coffee order: a spiced chai latte (always)

Favorite escape: reading a romance novel in the hammock at sunset or wandering new places with my daughter

Favorite time of day: definitely a night owl—my best ideas come after dark

Go-to comfort: ice cream, no question

Current obsession: golden hour light and exploring every new place on foot—there’s nothing like an urban adventure

If I weren’t a photographer: I’d probably be a travel writer or running a tiny bookstore filled with way too many plants

Favorite vacation: give me a beach, any beach, and I’m happy
